BETI BACHAO, BETI PADHAO – A SUCCESS ?

BETI BACHAO, BETI PADHAO – A SUCCESS ?

To help in women empowerment and equality certain drives and campaigns have been set up along with several scholarships and help provided by the government.

The questions that need to be considered are

Are these schemes really helpful?

Did they help in changing society’s mind?

Did they change the backward thinking of the people?

Did they put an end to the rape culture in India?

Has there been any increase in the number of school-going girls?

In order to find answers to these questions, let us take a look into what the ‘BetiBachaoBetiPadhao' project actually is.

To celebrate the birth of a girl child in the family the government has come forth with several programs that would help them to study and get settled. The programs are also expected to aid the women in their marriage.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) was launched by the Prime Minister of India on 22nd January 2015 at Panipat, Haryana. BBBP addresses the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and related issues of women empowerment. It is a tri-ministerial effort of the Ministries of Women and Child Development, Health & Family Welfare, and Human Resource Development.

Since the execution of BetiBachaoBetiPadhao, the multi-sectorial District Action Plans have been operationalized in practically all states. Nine arrangements of such training have been made covering all States/UTs by the Ministry of Women and Child Development from April-October, 2015. There are several states and regions which have taken this seriously and are helping in making sure that the girl child receives all facilities that are being enjoyed by the male child. This would help in improving their condition in society, thereby helping them to get empowered and settled.

Procedures utilized for an effective execution of the plan are as follows:

Actualizing a supported social assembly and correspondence mission to provide an equivalent incentive for the girl child and facilitate her education.

Discussing the issue of the constant decrease in youngster sex proportion/sex proportion during childbirth openly. Increasing awareness might lead to improvement.

Zeroing in on gender critical areas in rural and urban communities.

The Government has initiated this scheme which is being implemented through a national campaign. It focusses on multi-sectorial action in 100 select districts across India which are lagging behind considerably in terms of CSR. This is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Sitharaman said “I am pleased to inform the House that ‘BetiBachaoBetiPadhao’ has yielded tremendous results. Gross enrolment ratio of girls across all levels of education is now higher than boys.”

BJP being the ruling party, we now have many women police officers. The percentage has increased commendably from the earlier 6 to 8.5 in June 2019.

The government is encouraging the birth of girl children by making provisions for quality education and providing them with grants/aids/scholarships to help them fulfill their dreams and transform their future.

The Government has taken report of all the students who have failed in examinations from class 1 to class 10 to build a new test a system that would emphasize a thorough understanding of the subjects.

BetiBachaoBetiPadhao has been appreciated worldwide with the young girls, who are willing to study in schools, fixing their aspirations and dreams in this campaign.

Under BetiBachaoBetiPadhaoyojana, a savings scheme called the Sukanya Samriddhi Account has been introduced. This account, which has been devised exclusively for the girlchildren, enables the parents and guardians to save money for their daughters which can later be used for their education or marriage. There will be no tax deduction from this account. This will solve the issue of the girl child being looked down on as a financial burden.

The Government has forbidden the government schools from charging any fee for the education of girl children. There are also many private schools which provide special discounts to the girl child.

However, this scheme has many drawbacks:

This scheme finds it quite difficult to eradicate many social and cultural evils like sati, female feticide, domestic violence and child marriage from the minds of the people.

With the frequent migration of BBBP officials and administrators  to various other offices, the followers of the campaign find it difficult to gel well with the new faces and this leads to the formation of weak relationships.

In a world where people are hungry for results and do not really care about the effort that is being invested in a project, BBBP has failed to deliver accurate statistics and distinct statements about its plans regarding the execution of the program in the future.

BBBPhasn’t still been able to annihilate the practice of women being treated as inferiors who add hardly any value to the family.

When you educate a man, you educate a man but when you educate a woman, you educate a generation”.

We need a strong and determined BBBP program under the leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to balance the sex ratio and initiate the birth of a new India.
