Women in India are not safe and face a lot of discrimination in every field. Crimes against women occur every minute in India. Not a single place is safe for women. From workplace to household, they face harassment everywhere. Since a number of crimes are committed against women, it is crucial for women to be aware of the laws that are in place to protect them. Laws like Prohibition of Child Marriage, registration of marriages, prohibition of dowry, maternity benefit, termination of pregnancy, curtailing sexual harassment of women at workplace etc. are stepping stone for women empowerment. But laws can make no change if they stand unutilized. Therefore, the need of the hour is to strengthen the laws that are in favour of women and spread awareness for these laws. Proper application of such laws should be encouraged to rural as well as urban areas of the country. Women should understand the importance of their dignity and fight against every wrong practice that curtails their freedom and liberty.
