Humanity Is Greater Than Religion

Humanity is the ultimate religion of a person. No caste, religion, community is greater than the fact of us being humans. Even, most of the religions that are prevalent today give us the teaching to believe in humanity as our ultimate duty. A child takes birth without knowing his/her religion. Even a stranger who meets us and greets us is known by his/her etiquette, not by his/her religion. The boundaries that are created by the religious orthodox society make it difficult for the people to live with harmony and brotherhood in the society. Indians have always been boasting on the belief of ‘unity in diversity.’ But actually, the broad-minded thinking of a large section of our society makes it difficult to realize this belief. On the way to fulfill the religious prejudices, such broad-minded persons often end up persuading people to convert themselves into another religion. Anything given by force can never be fruitful. Religions given by force can turn us into a person that we are not, and take us miles away from God and Humanity. As mentioned in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution that India is a secular country. India doesn’t support or enforce any religion. People of our country are free to follow any religion of their choice. This feature of our Constitution makes our country more independent. Hence, according to the legal provisions also, no person is allowed to discriminate against any other person on the grounds of religion. However, the real scenario says something else. Legal abolition of such practices is not enough to make India free of religious discrimination and malpractices. A ground-level approach to make people understand the importance of living together with love and harmony is the need of the hour. We need  a religion of humanity that should be a secular belief system and shall unite us in meaningful ways, by teaching the truth that we are all the descendants of the same planet. Love and brotherhood are not something that can be given by force, but Religions, as they stand today, are given by force, by parents or dynasties to children. The emergence of communal riots happens every now and then in many parts of the country. Even politics is based on religious sectarianism. The philosophy of  Hindutva has voided the secular character of the Constitution. Rather than religion, the welfare of poor and underprivileged sections of the society should be the epicenter of the political affairs in the country. The establishment of peace and tranquillity should be the ultimate goal of the leaders as well as the common people of the country. Humanity should be the foremost religion for everyone.  We need to think and try to become better human beings rather than excelling in the religious requirements. We should free ourselves from the clutches of religious prejudices and follow the principles of humanity and universal brotherhood because after all, we all are equal and similar to Mother Earth. She nurtures all of us with the same care and zeal. We have to change from the inside, think beyond the limitations set by religious beliefs. We should concern for others and endeavor to become responsible human beings.
