MOB LYNCHING
Punishing a group of people without any legal authority and trial or proper investigation is called mob lynching. This mostly includes hanging in general. Many a times, when people shout out for justice and if they are fallen in deaf ears, then there is an outbreak among the public then, mob lynching takes place.
Many cases are still existing in India as examples of mob lynching. Some examples may be the following cases:
1. West Bengal lynching case
2. Ayub Khan lynching case
3. Junaid lynching case
4. Harpur lynching case
5. Guwahati lynching case
6. Alwar lynching case
7. Dhule lynching case
8. Akhlaq lynching case
All the above are instances, where a group of people were punished and lynched. In many places people try to get justice in a calm and decent way initially. But when they understand that their needs cannot be restored in a calm way they tend to show mob attitude and gather unitedly as a whole. When that happens all of them will be punished by the official authorities. They do that without any proper legal steps in order to bring the situation under control. The extreme of mob lynching is putting large number of people to death by hanging them.
The reason for mob lynching may be the violence created by certain group of people. This could happen because of the damages caused to a particular person or a community. Mobs try to punish the guilty and take law into their hands without any legal authority. This forces the police officers to involve themselves in mob lynching.
Many a times, innocent people are affected badly because of mob lynching. This may happen when common people are perceived to believe a rumour as truth. Without any prior information they try to take up the law in their hands and try to punish the accused ones. When higher officials try to gain control over the situation, the mob attitude of people increases and irritates the officials and thus end up in mob lynching.
An instance of mob lynching can be quoted here. A few days before a lady doctor was attacked by mobs when she was traveling in a car. She was attacked by people with stones. This happened because of a baseless rumor which had been made to spread around without her knowledge. She was accused of kidnapping children for the organ mafia. All these commotion took place with the presence of police! Many were arrested and lynched.
Cases of mob lynching cannot be dealt at ease. They may mostly need a special probation to investigate it because it includes a large number of people.
Many a times mob lynching end up in deaths! And they are covered up too!! Mob attitude can be avoided by people and non-violent protests with proper permissions can be undertaken by them instead of it. Thus, India can become a non-violent country. Police too can be considerably understanding towards the mob so that mob lynching and losing too many lives can be avoided!!
