Digital Detox: Aiming to become social media healthy

Image
Social Media has its various purposes and many benefits. However now social media has grown a different connection to humans, one where we treat our phones like it is a segment of our own body. We unintentionally find ourselves wandering into and out of different apps on our phones for hours, sometimes without any purpose. For many, this has become a part of their daily routine.  The world spends an average of almost 3 hours on social media daily. While we may think of it as unharmful scrolling, we unconsciously compare our lives to the ones we see online. We judge ourselves and start planting the seed for low self esteem, anxiety, depression and other detrimental effects on Mental Health. This is where switching off is required and this is when Digital detox is needed.  “We live today not in the digital, not in the physical, but in the kind of minestrone that our mind makes of the two” ~ Paola Antonelli Imagine spending a day without social media, a day where you dedicate yo...

WHY FEMINISM IS OFTEN ABUSED RATHER THAN USED?

WHY FEMINISM IS OFTEN ABUSED RATHER THAN USED? Feminism is a very important topic in today's world and there are, perhaps, more pseudo-feminists than any real ones. First, it is imperative to understand what feminism is. Feminism is a cultural, political and social theory that aims at attaining equality among all sexes . Listed below are some points that one must keep in mind while trying to become a true feminist: Gender and sex are not the same thing. Sex is biological. Gender is the role we play out in society and gender roles are often pre-determined. For instance, there have always been stereotypical divisions between masculine tasks and feminine delicacies. What we need to understand is that it is perfectly fine if a man wants to cook or apply makeup. It is perfectly fine if a woman wants to become a Ninja. It is perfectly fine if a woman doesn't want to bear a child. It is fine if she wants to cut her hair short. There is nothing called 'unfeminine' or '...

A poem on the trauma that transgenders face in our country (and across the world)

A poem on the trauma that transgenders face in our country (and across the world)    Clad in a Sari: Clad in a sari, 'm not your ordinary Lakshmi I was eight when I first realised I was better off as a woman, Of course I wasn't born one Of course my parents, friends, relatives considered me sick I ran away, I was only fifteen 'M not sure I was looked for, It scarcely mattered whether I was alive or dead, hungry or fed! Because clad in a sari, I wasn't an ordinary Lakshmi. I didn't know if I should be ashamed I hadn't murdered, or stolen or raped I was only more comfortable as a woman Today I beg by traffic lights I have no home, no hearth, no one to call mine. No one waits for me to return home even if it's two hours passed midnight Even if it's raining hard, biting cold or starkly sunny Who cares! Clad in a sari, 'm not their ordinary Lakshmi! I am often denied money, made faces at, Parents point me out to their children M a thing of amusement I mak...

"In the age of selfishness, selfless service is the only soap that truly purifies" ~ Mata Amritanandamayi We are often asked about what exactly inspired us to start this beautiful service of an NGO. And we, being the creative minds we are, saw it as an opportunity to let our readers know the sweet story behind this organization! For we love our audience and c'mon who doesn't like listening to inspiring incidents!  This goes back to a long time when our very own, CEO & General Secretary, Dr. Sumit Singh's parents were in their early middle age. They used to give away 70% of their salary to do as much philanthropy and selfless acts as possible. Yet none of them believed in boasting their benevolent attitude and their practice. Therefore no official platform was established back then.  " You don't need riches to do great things in life, you can make a huge difference by merely devoting your time and being compassionate!" ~ Mrs. Savitri Singh, o...

While all genders run the risk of being exploited and trafficked, in India at least, women and children form the most vulnerable groups.  Lack of education and proper awareness is one of the many reasons which makes women and children so prone to the...

Freshwater is utilized for agriculture, industries, and drinking purposes. Water demand is increasing with the increase in population. As against this, the supply of water is limited. Even thi...
