ONLINE SHOPPING ADDICTION
Shopping addiction, also known as oniomania or obsessive shopping, is possibly the most socially acceptable form of addiction. Consider this: We are constantly bombarded with advertisements that promise to make us happy if we buy something.
Shopping addiction is a type of behavioural addiction in which people buy things they don't need to feel good and avoid bad emotions like worry and depression. Shopping addiction, like other behavioural addictions, can become an obsession that causes issues in other aspects of your life.
Shopping addiction sometimes co-occurs with other problems, such as mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, eating disorders, other impulse control issues, and personality disorders, and usually begins in one's late teens or early adulthood. Some people develop a shopping addiction as a means of boosting their self-esteem, albeit this isn't always beneficial.
People with a buying habit may require financial assistance from a family member or close friend in the early stages of rehabilitation to fight their addiction. But, in the end, it's up to them to develop good spending habits. Dealing with the financial consequences of compulsive purchasing is the most difficult aspect of a shopping addiction.
